Waterloo-Oxford donates to help Syrian refugees

Local school holds Spring fundraiser.

New Hamburg's Waterloo-Oxford District Secondary School has made a financial donation to Wilmot Responds.

The school raised $452 at a Spring fundraising event, to support Syrian refugees.

W-O teacher Jeff Gerber said: "We do a monthly charity collection in homeroom for various local charities‎. In March, the collection was for local Syrian refugee support. Homeroom reps pass around an envelope in every homeroom and bring all the envelopes to our SAC office. We count it and send it along to where it needs to go."

Gerber added: "The donation is from the monthly charity day collection ‎for the month of March conducted by the W-O SAC Charities and Services Committee."

Jeff Gerber also serves as a councillor for New Hamburg (Ward 4) in Wilmot Township.
